Create and customize an invoice template

Start with a preset, tune the visual design, and choose the default for current invoices.

Development preview. Steps are source-reviewed, not fully live-tested. Available app captures illustrate selected screens.

What you’ll accomplish

A saved template with a reviewed sample preview and an intentionally selected shop default.

Before you start

  • Access to Templates in InvoiceWrench.
  • Business details and an optional logo are already saved in Settings.
  • Use a separate template copy if you want to experiment without editing an existing design.

1. Create a starting design

  1. Open Templates

The Invoice templates gallery shows existing designs, their previews, and the Default badge where applicable.

  2. Choose a preset

For your first template, select Modern, Classic, Minimal, or Compact on the page, then choose Create template. If templates already exist, Create template opens Choose a starting design; select a preset and choose Create Modern template, or the corresponding button for your chosen preset.

  3. Or duplicate an existing design

Open the template card’s more-actions menu and choose Duplicate. Open the new copy with Edit template before customizing it.

The Modern template card shows a sample invoice preview, the Default badge, Edit template, Preview, and the more-actions menu.

2. Tune layout, colors, and branding

  1. Name the design

In the Template section, enter a useful Template name so the design is easy to recognize in the gallery.

  2. Adjust Layout

Choose Page density, Header layout, Customer layout, and Totals alignment. Review long addresses and line-item spacing in the live preview as you change them.

  3. Set Colors and Branding

Choose Accent color and, if needed, expand Advanced colors. In Branding, adjust Font style, Logo size, and Logo alignment. Review any contrast warning before saving.

3. Decide what the document displays

  1. Review Document and Customer information

Set Document title, Number prefix, and Number suffix, and choose whether to show order date, due date, PO number, payment reference, and draft quote expiration. Review customer-name, company, address, email, and phone visibility.

  2. Review Line items and Totals

Choose which item columns and totals appear, including discounts, shipping, tax, refunds, and amount paid. Inspect the preview after hiding information so the document remains understandable.

  3. Finish Notes and footer and Labels

Decide whether invoice notes and the footer appear, enter Footer text where needed, and review any customized Labels.

4. Save, preview, and select the default

  1. Save the design

Choose Save template. The live preview is sample data and is not itself a saved invoice.

  2. Review a larger preview

Use Full preview in the editor or Preview on the gallery card to inspect the layout. Then verify the design against a current order or draft with realistic content.

  3. Choose the shop default

Return to Templates and choose Set as default on the intended card. Confirm that it is marked Default and Current default.

5. Undo an unwanted edit safely

  1. Use the narrowest recovery control

Reset section restores that section’s settings. Undo last design/palette reverses the last supported design or palette application.

  2. Discard an unsaved experiment

Choose Discard changes to return to the saved template. Reset template is broader, so review the resulting preview before saving again.
